Just a little longer and then we can finally see The Witcher

Images from the new Netflix series The Witcher

Is there a big emptiness in your heart since the end of Game of Thrones? Or are you one of the many who prefer to pretend that the last season of it never happened at all? Either way, I feel you, and I can happily tell you that it won't be long before you have a new addiction. And that is called The Witcher. In July they ‘already’ came with the first still images, now the trailer is finally here too.

And a release date: December 20. Just before Christmas so, quite cozy for your family members when you gobble down the Christmas dinner to watch all eight episodes as quickly as possible. Nice timing, Netflix. Just like Game of Thrones, The Witcher is based on a book series. The author of that, Andrzej Sapkowski, is — understandably — very happy with the Netflix series, partly because he says that the series has remained very true to the books. Sapkowski is also working as a consultant on the series. Honestly, I have become quite curious about those books so I ordered part one right away. It will arrive tomorrow, I will give a review later.

But that trailer looks quite promising in any case. I already found the main character a big +1; that's Henry Cavill. Really not bad to look at, so well cast Netflix. He plays Geralt of Rivia, or The Witcher. I guess this series is not really for the more sensitive souls, as there are already quite a few battles visible in the trailer. But also in terms of visuals, costumes, and effects, it looks quite impressive. Will this still be the hit of 2019 at the last minute? I think there's a good chance of that.

By the way, the trailer and the overall story also reminded me a bit of Lord of the Rings. The Witcher is also a bit more in the fantasy genre than GoT, so that could also be true. Well, I actually just really look forward to this series. How long do those episodes last? I hope for an hour each. Otherwise, we will really be through them so quickly.
