MAYS DUBAI REPORT PART II

May in Dubai with the city trip in Dubai and fashion colleagues from the magazine world

So here we are. In Dubai. The place that I felt I had to see at least once. If only to know whether I am team pro or con Dubai. If you, like me, are a tabula rasa when it comes to visiting Dubai, then this article by Kiki is the solution. What immediately stands out are the praying rooms that are present everywhere, the cola cans with Arabic characters, hummus at breakfast (why not?), men in traditional and beautiful dishdashas and yes, let's be honest, also a well-represented part of the population that loves to frequent the gym, the plastic surgeon, the hair extension specialist, and the tanning bed. The lady next to me at check-in could hardly speak, her lips were so full of fillers. And if she’s not careful, her breasts will soon obstruct her view of the world.

A phenomenon, in short. We dipped our toes in the pool of Nikki Beach Club & Spa, smeared ourselves with Lancaster's tan activator oil factor 50, and used the amazing Sun Perfect Infinite Glow Primer factor 30 (which I applied two weeks ago on my girls' faces, not knowing it contained color, but boy, did they have an amazing glow, haha) and ate a masterful Nicoise salad on the beach.

’In the evening, a boat trip was on the agenda and it couldn't have been more Dubai-like. The wine could only be served once the ropes were untied (then you are back on ‘home ground’ and alcohol can flow and stream) and then we noticed halfway through the evening that the buildings in Dubai looked very much alike. We turned out to be sailing in circles on the river... Almost the Efteling for adults. But the food was good, the company even better, and the waiter’s question: ‘Who’s an alcoholic?’ (his way of asking: who wants wine) will go down in the books.

Dubai, you are something else.
