Netflix is coming out with a new thrilling series WHAT / IF

main character from the new Netflix series what if

Oh Netflix, the gift that keeps on giving. Because if you're worried about running out of series, for example because next week is already the last episode of Riverdale which I'm really bummed about, those worries are unfounded. On May 24, the series WHAT / IF will be launched, starring Renée Zellweger. Just don't expect any Bridget Jones-drama, this series is very far from that. It will be more dystopian events à la Black Mirror; not bad either.

Renée plays a scientist, Anne, in WHAT / IF who makes a dubious deal with an investor. She needs money to realize her medical start-up. The creator himself says about it: ‘The ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things. Each season will tackle a different morality tale inspired by culturally consequential source material, and the power of a single fateful decision to change the trajectory of an entire life.’ I get a bit of a Black Mirror vibe from this, which also explores these aspects. And just like Black Mirror, WHAT / IF is also described as an anthology, which means you don't necessarily have to watch every episode to understand it all. Although it seems to discover more loose things per season. By the way, those seasons consist of ten episodes and take place in San Francisco.

Check the trailer below for yourself, in which a dark Zellweger plays the narrator. With some dramatic music, police raids, hospitals, and broken glass, the atmosphere is complete. By the way, it seems to me to be a series that is perfectly suitable for people with a weak stomach, as I read and see little about horror scenes in WHAT / IF. But that it will be exciting, I have no doubt about that.

Then there's something I'm also curious about. We see it a bit in the trailer already and that gives me good hope… But how will Renée Zellweger look? Sorry, but I had to look three times when I saw her on the red carpet. A bit too much botox? Wow. What a shame. I think she has also come to terms with that, because I see facial expressions in the trailer again, so that's a good sign. Also a case of ‘people starting to do unacceptable things’, although I don't think they will highlight this in WHAT / IF. But you never know, of course.
