Netflix launches trailer for new series The Gift

If you love thrilling series and movies, then The Gift is one to keep an eye on. This is a new series coming to Netflix — where else? — and the trailer hooked me right away. I think this is really going to be a recommendation, unless you quickly suffer from nightmares or sleepless nights, because this one can get quite scary. Side note: it’s a Turkish series, but through the Dutch Netflix it is dubbed in English. If you find this annoying (understandable), try setting your Netflix to a different language.

Okay, the story: artist Atiye has been drawing the same kind of symbol her whole life, which is also prominently featured in her artworks. An unknown symbol, until this exact symbol is found at an archaeological dig. That symbol seems to be centuries old, but Atiye knew nothing about it. That’s the beginning of life as she knows it, because suddenly she is in the spotlight. Is there a link between the two identical symbols, and if so, what is that link? Are there supernatural forces at play? The title suggests that, but it’s not entirely clear from the trailer.

The only confusing thing is that foreign series often get multiple titles in the different Netflix countries. A little example is La Casa de Papel that if Money Heist is available, so is The Gift; if your Netflix is set to the Netherlands, it’s called Atiye. If you want to watch it in the original with English subtitles and set your Netflix to another country, it’s called The Gift again. Maybe a good resolution for 2020, Netflix: shall we just stick to one title? Thank you.
