Say whut: Victoria's Secret stops with annual lingerie show

Honestly: it was actually a bit of a wait for this day. Isn't it all quite outdated? Sending stunningly beautiful women, skin and bones, down the catwalk in a Rio de Janeiro carnival outfit? What do young girls think when they see such bodies? Do they see in the quick fourteen minutes of the show that these women have sacrificed their lives and bodies for over half a year to reach this state of #bodygoals? Modeling is top sport, they say, but is the fairy tale still of this time? Aren't we women a bit done with that perfect picture? Don't we now massively like photos of women with stretch marks on Insta? Just because it's the reality?

Exactly. And they must have felt that at the lingerie brand as well. The once-celebrated reputation of Victoria’s Secret has been declining in recent years. Complaints about an unrealistic image have become more frequent, and let's be honest: the fact that owner Leslie Wexner ‘granted access’ to his good friend Jeffrey Epstein to young girls working for the lingerie brand was also an extra drop in the bucket. The poor man is currently in jail awaiting trial for abusing underage girls, and that was the perfect moment to say that this year's show simply won't happen.

By the way, it is the first time in 24 years that the American lingerie brand is not holding a catwalk show, which is normally broadcast on TV. That something will happen again in the future is certain according to model Shanina Shaik (28 years old, one of the Angels). Well Victoria, go ahead and sweep through all your secrets, and then we'll be at the front again when beautiful lingerie comes out. Joejoe.
