The new Penoza movie is in theaters from today

Carmen. Is. Back. Before we Undercover and Mocro Mafia had, we of course had the Van Walraven family. Penoza is for me a bit where this whole Dutch crime series craze started and was also the first series in a long time that I absolutely wanted to watch on TV every week. I didn't want to wait a second longer to catch it on Uitzending Gemist. Okay, the last season may not have reached the level of the earlier ones, but now that the concluding movie is in theaters, I notice that I really don't care that much; I want to see this. ASAP.

In Penoza: The Final Chapter, Carmen lives undercover in Canada, far away from her kids, and tries to lead a quiet life. Well, it surprises no one that that quiet life is short-lived. Blood runs where it can't go, and before you know it, Carmen gets involved in a murder case at the diner where she works. Well, if you're diving back into that world, you might as well do it in the Netherlands where your extended family is, right?

The Canadian police agree, and Carmen is extradited to the Netherlands. Side note: her kids didn't even know their mother was still alive the whole time. I'm very curious how that reunion will be on screen. Especially son Boris is my favorite, but he is also the most unstable, so it can't be helped that he will react very poorly to this. During her trial, Carmen is also blackmailed by the Mexican cartel; if she doesn't do what they say, one of her family members will die. Not Boris. I beg you.

Nice that the creators understand that we've had to wait a long time for this movie and that we might not be completely up to date on how and what. That's why a number of flashbacks seem to have been added to the film. Great, because with all those cartels, criminals, enemies, and friends of Carmen, I also didn't remember exactly how it was. Such a flashback comes in handy for me.

So it's understandable that everyone is canceling their plans tonight: tonight is Penoza night in the cinema. A nice excuse to buy an XL popcorn, because I'm an emotional eater and after this movie it's really over. No Carmen. No Boris. NO LUTHER. That's what I find the worst.
