These are the best festivals of this summer

festival

Yesss, the festival season is coming and that means a summer full of fun, dancing until the sun goes down and making new friends at the Dixi's. Nowadays there are so many festivals that you can hardly see the main stage for the trees. And I haven't even mentioned how crowded they are. I still remember stepping onto the Lowlands site last year and being overwhelmed by the sight of 40,000 people. That's why I've selected the sweetest festivals for you. Not too massive, great music, and with a fairytale-like decoration. And if I may give one tip: book as soon as possible. Although many more festivals have been added, it seems like there are even more festival lovers. The best events sell out in no time.

Festifest: June 1

For years this festival has been my favorite. You stand by Noorderlicht in Amsterdam dancing by the water to the beats of, among others, my favorite Jennifer Cardini. Previously there were two stages, unfortunately a third stage has been added. So it's not as small-scale and cozy as in previous years, but still really worth it. And when it's over, the party moves to Noorderlicht and you can continue until it gets light again.

Where the sheep sleep: June 27 – July 1

I have never been to this Dutch answer to Burning Man, but if you're in the mood for a DIY festival and Nevada is just a bridge too far, this seems like a good option. Think of something fun, gather a group of people around you and off you go!

Wildeburg: July 12 – 14

This is the most fun and at the same time the most impossible festival to visit: Wildeburg. In the middle of the Noordoostpolder, you will find a fairytale forest with a lake. Three thousand chosen ones frolic here blissfully during the weekend of July 12 to 14, enjoying fine deep house beats. Despite the fact that the line-up is not yet known, this festival is completely sold out. But you still have a chance. On April 3, Sunday tickets will be released at 12:04 PM. Make sure you're ready!

Zomertuin van Bret: August 11-12-18-19

As if you have friends with an amazing garden who also have great taste in music. In August, there is a nice party every weekend in this green oasis of the city. I mention Kornél Kovács, Nuno Dos Santos, and again one of my favorites: Max Abysmal. Nice and clear and not too far to bike, super cozy and pleasant. The ideal place for Lowlands refugees.

Valtifest: September 7

You don't necessarily come here for the music, although it's usually good, but for the crazy dressed-up people. Every year there is a theme, such as Limboland or All in the family where everyone can unleash their creativity. Not dressing up is not done. This year the festivity will be held for the first time at Kaap Oost, a great city beach at the eastern tip of Zeeburgereiland.
