This is how to turn your 12 square meters into a dream room

lynn in her house

Job: check. Room: check. Turquoise wall from the previous occupant: check. This place is like the whipped cream on my hot chocolate. Still, there’s quite a bit of Bob-Rossing to do before it starts to feel like home.

I was never really into Pinterest and Marktplaats. Until now, that is. My pinboard is overflowing, I’m making second-hand deals with people from Nooitgedacht (that actually exists) and the thrift store is the most beautiful furniture boulevard in the country.

My zodiac sign Libra doesn’t help with all those renovation choices. These are some support pillars that ensure a financially and aesthetically responsible room.

Choose a color

I’ve decorated a number of square meters in Amsterdam twice. I painted all the walls white and created a sort of botanical garden in my bedroom. I’m going to do it differently now. It can all be a bit cozier, so there will be color on the wall. As I have it in my head now: wine red together with the shade skin powder. Just look it up.

Everything vintage

The mirrors, tables, and cabinets from the Sissy-Boy catalog come with quite a hefty price tag. I’m not at the point where I spend €400 on a sideboard and I’m going the hand-clap route with Marktplaats in the Netherlands. This way, you see something and reel in your furniture for a few tens.

Better well stolen than…

Make mood boards and pin like crazy. Here, money doesn’t play a role. Wahant: you’re of course looking for the Ali Baba variant of such a brass golden crane or marble side table. Just fake it.
