What you think when you are scared to death of thunder

woman with red hair hides in bed

I don't know how it was for you last night, but I was shivering in bed in a fetal position, so scared. Thunder, lightning, hail, rain, sirens; with every gust of wind, I imagined my windows flying out of their frames. That didn't happen, but I was definitely terrified . These are the eight things that might have crossed your mind last night as well:

1. When it storms outside so hard that it seems like the roof of my house is going to come off, I always go into ostrich mode. Head under a pile of pillows, three blankets over me, and especially not looking. No, NOT looking.
2. Then come the doomsday scenarios. Is the tent going to catch fire? Is there going to be a lightning strike? Am I going to go blind from the flashes? As if my last hour has struck.
3. Or the game: lightning or burglar. That bang, was that really thunder or is there going to be a balaclava in my room soon?
4. And since I don't have a big strong Hercules lying next to me telling me that the house isn't going to blow away and that everything will be fine, I have to calm myself down. Joe. Last night I did that with the soothing thought ‘pretend it's fireworks, then it won't be so bad’. Please, tell me I'm not the only one who does this.
5. What also works is some music, just to chase away that grim Dracula vibe from the bedroom. A random album by Bruno Mars works wonders, I can tell you.
6. And just at the moment when my hysterical heartbeat was returning to normal, there comes a kind of big bang 2.0 that has me plastered against the ceiling with my nostrils.
7. Or the realization that I, with 85 blankets over me, am lying in a warm bed smelling of Zwitsal but there are also people outside. Outside, without a house and without a duvet. My heart breaks.
8. By the way, did you also check Buienradar at 1:03 AM like I did? Just to see when the storm crawls out of the country again?

And I thought spring had started. Not at all.
