Why you want to see The Last Summer with KJ Apa now

A very nice Monday, dear Netflixers. Let's start by evaluating how nice this weekend was to just lie on the couch, cancel appointments, and shamelessly spend hours in front of the TV, and then continue lying in bed with the laptop. And I'm not even ashamed of it. Last weekend, so much came out on Netflix that I easily filled my weekend with it. The new movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile for example, about serial killer Ted Bundy, played by Zac Efron. Yes, you want to see it. I found it really a recommendation. But also the first Dutch Netflix series came online: Undercover, with Anna Drijver, Elise Schaap, Frank Lammers, Raymond Thiry, and many more. Yes, this is definitely the new Penoza and I also found it hard to turn this one off. Again, a recommendation, you know.
However, these two tips don't really fall into the category of ‘easy watching’ and so after all the murders, rapes, and drug dealing, I was ready for something simpler. You can probably imagine that. Well, after a very short search on Netflix, I quickly ended up at The Last Summer, which also came out last Friday (just like Extremely Wicked). The search was short because I saw who played the lead role: I was immediately sold. Namely KJ Apa, or Archie from Riverdale. Or the character from Riverdale that we see more without a shirt than with one, and I totally understand why.
The Last Summer is, as the title actually already says, about a last summer. In this case, about the last summer before a group of friends leaves to study. Just like Archie, KJ is in this film, where he plays Griffin, a bit with a dilemma: he wants to make music but feels he ‘has to’ study Business. Do we remember that Archie also didn't want to put down his guitar in a distant past? In this case, it's a DJ career. His crush Phoebe (Maia Mitchell) fully believes in his talent and thinks it's a shame if he doesn't do anything with it. Meanwhile, the two of them are also discovering their new love. By the way, The Last Summer takes place in a city by the beach, so yes: KJ's other talent also comes into play. Lots of shirtless scenes.
The rest of their friend group is also in their transition phase from high school to college, with the accompanying drama. Break-ups due to the upcoming distance, new loves, a heartbreak from being dumped... You know how it goes. Nothing new, but oh so nice and sweet to watch. Did I already mention that KJ Apa is in it? I believe I have found a new love. So rally your girlfriends if you haven't done that this weekend yet, and plan that movie night.
