It was about time for some light binge-watching series again. Don't get me wrong: series like When they see us and Orange is the new black – love it, but sometimes it can be quite heavy on the stomach. My go-to for a series where you need to use as few brain cells as possible was always Modern Family, but that one Netflix decided to take down again . Well, great. So it was back to the endless reruns of Friends on Comedy Central.. Well, it seems we are getting a good replacement for Modern Family (and rightly so), namely The Politician. It premieres on September 27 and the creator is Ryan Murphy. If that name doesn't ring a bell, you probably know his gem: Glee.

If you had told me about ten years ago that a certain businessman named Donald Trump would become the new POTUS, I would have believed you that this was the new plot of a comedy series. Unfortunately, we now know that really everything is possible and that comedy series has turned into a tearjerker. Hopefully, The Politician will be different. We follow Payton Hobart, a rich kid from Santa Barbara, whose ambition is to become the new president of the United States. So, an ambitious kid, especially since he is still in high school. And he first has to survive that, with all his political ambitions, while also trying to get into Harvard. The life of a high school student is not easy.

Our inner nightingale will also be treated to a ballad or sing-along here and there. Given the subject, I absolutely expect that the Glee hit (yes, originally by Journey but admit it: everyone sings along to the Glee version).

Don’t stop believing will definitely make an appearance. Ben Platt will take on the lead role and we saw him before in Pitch Perfect, so his golden voice is in good shape. To complete the star-studded cast, they have added Lucy Boynton a.k.a. the woman of Freddie Mercury in.

Bohemian Rhapsody. Add to that Gwyneth Paltrow as executive producer and character, and you have quite a few ingredients for a new hit, it seems to me. Don’t worry, it won’t be as sappy as Glee. Murphy promises it will be a dark, satirical comedy, and that just happens to be my favorite genre. I also enjoy a sing-along or two here and there, so I have the feeling this series will fit my taste. We will know for sure on September 27, but I hope a trailer will be released before that. Stay tuned.
