5 tips against dry lips (and the best lip balms)

“It’s beginning to look a lot like…” Yes yes, I’ve already played the first Christmas song. You can call me crazy, but I love it. Pepernoten in the stores in August? Really delicious. Those extremely hot summer days I could do without. Just give me a thick coat and a scarf, really, I mean it. There is only one downside to this weather, besides the rain: dry lips. I don’t know how it is for you, but I keep applying. The gloss that I like to use goes from touching up twice to six times a new layer. That’s not so strange, because your lips are not able to hydrate themselves, like your skin can, for example. To prevent nasty flakes this year once and for all, I have a few tips for you.
1. Pay attention while cleansing your skin. Especially with an exfoliant: unconsciously you often go over your lips with the cotton pad and that’s not really the intention. As for the skin around your mouth, it is very important to cleanse it to prevent impurities.
2. You will automatically lick your lips when they feel dry. This is actually a no-go and works counterproductively. Try to do this as little as possible because this may be a temporary solution, in the long run, they will only become rougher from it and we don’t want that.
3. Drink plenty of water. I always have a water bottle handy with a handy straw in it or a jug and try to fill it at least twice. This way I can keep track of how much water I’ve drunk that day, with loose glasses I really have no overview at all. Was it two? Or ten? Quite inconvenient.
4. Vitamins: the R is back in the month so I’m picking up my vitamins again. Riboflavin (B2) is a good idea to get now. It contributes to a healthy skin, nails, hair and prevents inflammation. Do you already have small cracks around your mouth? Then you probably have a deficiency of this vitamin. A quick trip to the drugstore then.
5. Do you already have flakes? Then gently brush over your mouth with your toothbrush for a subtle scrub and apply a layer of Vaseline.
By the way, I only use that layer of Vaseline in the evening. During the day I like to use something else like Skin Food from Weleda or that nice jar from Chanel, it also looks nice on my desk. To help you a little bit, I’ve gathered our favorite lip balms for you. By the way, don’t forget to apply your lips with an SPF when the sun is shining? It will prevent a lot of flakes. Shop them, okay.
