8 things you have and do from your thirties that are quite remarkable

Adeline Mans

The fireplace was on, I was holding a cup of tea and sitting on the couch under my favorite blanket when I suddenly started to worry. I've become one of those thirty-somethings with bags and a favorite pan. This is what I suddenly do.

1. Filling a bag with little bags
My mother used to do this, which was incredibly handy, because oh dear if the little bags ran out. But I had never seen adulthood as a bag filled with little bags until I found this striking text on Instagram this morning. By the way, I also can't bring myself to throw them away, which means I not only have a bag with little bags in the hallway closet, but also in the storage room and in the attic.

2. Postponing refueling for as long as possible
In the past, nothing was more desirable than being seen while refueling, because that meant you were older than eighteen, had your driver's license, and had a car to put something in, nowadays I try to postpone the gas station for as long as possible. As a result, I ultimately end up behind the wheel with palpitations. I also feel extra organized at the moments when I schedule time in my day to refuel.

3. Refreshing your flower water or watering your Christmas tree
It's just that I was thoroughly trained in the flower shop where I had a part-time job, otherwise I probably wouldn't have even cut the roses at an angle until I was thirty. But now I notice that flowers are drying out and that they need (timely) water.

4. The laundry, while you still have clothes lying in your closet
What was simply unthinkable in the past. How often did you pull your favorite jeans out of the laundry basket again and douse them with deodorant and perfume?

5. Cookbooks that you actually cook from
I would already panic if I had to strain something, let alone simmer. Now I am happy to leaf through cookbooks, which my boyfriend then cooks from.

6. Walking desire, not to be confused with wanderlust
It may have something to do with the crisis we are in, but suddenly walking is no longer sexless. You are a wise and healthy person if you start the day by walking.

7. Subscriptions
To newspapers, magazines, flowers, YogaTV, and language courses, which you then completely forget to cancel.

8. A favorite pan
I've had that my whole life. It was a sad moment when my favorite snack pan turned out to be unsuitable for induction. I still haven't been able to throw it away. That pan and I have such a history.
