Applause for Rens

Rens Kroes

That (becoming pregnant) is not a given, we know. And yet it is nice that more and more women are breaking the taboo, like Rens Kroes today. Last year she lost a twin after nine weeks of pregnancy. Now she tells her story in Grazia. “I thought when I became pregnant: how beautiful, how special, I get to carry a little soul inside me.” After nine weeks, things went wrong. “It hadn't felt right for a while, and then I lost the first baby and shortly after that the second.”

According to Rens, it is important (yes!) to make miscarriages discussable, to be able to talk about it together, and to know that it is okay. “I hear so much around me that women have experienced this too. When I talk openly about it, someone often responds with: ‘Oh, yes, I also had a miscarriage,’ while we often don't know this about each other. Hopefully, by sharing my own miscarriage, I can help make it a bit more ‘normal’.” Fortunately for Rens, her pregnancy is now going well. “With this baby – yes, it is one – I felt so strongly that it is right. I knew immediately: this one is really coming in October.” Love to you, Rens. I think you're amazing.
