Singer Duffy breaks years of media silence: ‘I was kidnapped, drugged, and raped’
‘You got me begging you for mercy. Why won’t you release me.’ Shit… that lyric suddenly takes on a whole new meaning when you consider what happened next. After her hugely popular debut, it went quiet around singer Duffy. Until yesterday. Because then she dropped a bomb in showbiz that you need a moment to digest. ‘The truth is, and trust me when I say this, that I am safe now. But I was raped and drugged and held captive for a number of days.’ Duffy stopped making music in 2011 – bam – and disappeared from the spotlight. No one understood why, until now. ‘The recovery took time. In the thousands of days that followed, I wanted to feel the sun in my heart again. That is now the case,’ she writes on Instagram, after which she received messages of support from all over the world.

You can only imagine the amount of times I thought about writing this. The way I would write it, how I would feel thereafter. Well, not entirely sure why now is the right time, and what it is that feels exciting and liberating for me to talk. I cannot explain it. Many of you wonder what happened to me, where did I disappear to and why. A journalist contacted me, he found a way to reach me and I told him everything this past summer. He was kind and it felt so amazing to finally speak. The truth is, and please trust me I am ok and safe now, I was raped and drugged and held captive over some days. Of course I survived. The recovery took time. There’s no light way to say it. But I can tell you in the last decade, the thousands and thousands of days I committed to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun does now shine. You wonder why I did not choose to use my voice to express my pain? I did not want to show the world the sadness in my eyes. I asked myself, how can I sing from the heart if it is broken? And slowly it unbroke. In the following weeks I will be posting a spoken interview. If you have any questions I would like to answer them, in the spoken interview, if I can. The new season of The Handmaid’s Tale is delayed

The fourth season is delayed. ‘Part of the reason it’s taking a bit longer is that we’re making a bit of a bigger season this year,’ says lead actress Elisabeth Moss. ‘We are really pushing the boundaries of our capabilities and a lot is being shifted. We’re not spending much time in a studio between four walls, so it’s really a bigger season and that takes a bit longer.’ According to Elisabeth, the series will not be ready until the end of this year. Well, if you’re nine years old, your dad is the most followed person on Instagram ever (seriously, Ronaldo has 205 million followers) and then you obviously can’t fall behind. Cristiano Ronaldo Junior – yep, that’s the little one’s name – is now a thing, people. He uploaded his first video yesterday (in which he addressed his followers in four languages) and since then he has gained almost a million followers. Hatsa, piece of cake with such a dad.

It was still a question whether it would all go ahead but luckily: yes. Tempah is back on and starts tonight. According to presenter Annelien, it will be an eventful season. ‘Let me put it this way: programmatically, the new season is very good again. There are a number of new elements and twists in it, which I can’t say anything about yet, but they will ensure the necessary tension and drama.’ Who, what, where? Tonight at 8:30 PM on RTL5. And, Videoland will even air three (!) episodes, PARTY!
