Diary of a model

Lily spends her days as a model, rushing from shoot to show and on to yet another casting. On Amayzine, she tells you all about what her life is really like. Under a different name, of course, but that means she can share all the juicy details. This week: Lily's New Year's resolutions.
I hope everyone has kicked off the new year with a bang. I’ve certainly heard some screaming kitchen ladies. I’m not talking about the fireworks, but about myself, hiding in the kitchen from the fireworks. I’m not really into fireworks. I like sparklers and find them fun, but I don’t understand why people blow a month’s salary into the sky. You won’t find me on the street at midnight, but safely behind a window watching the decorative fireworks. I do find that enjoyable. But those firecrackers… Light them, throw them away, bang! I don’t get it. I think it’s a good idea to abolish private fireworks in 2020 and have a nice big central show in each city, like on the Harbour Bridge in Sydney. And that seems like a nice segue (Harbour-bridge segue) to my New Year's resolutions for 2020. More sports, healthier eating, same old, same old. Everyone's favorite resolution for the new year.
But this year for real! I’m starting the year with a sports fasting cure. After all those Christmas dinners and NYE drinks, my body could really use a good reset. I’m doing this with a personal trainer because it’s a very intense program where your body switches from sugar to fat burning. So I’m starting the year hungry and somewhat cranky. Sorry to everyone around me, but hangry is a thing. I’m doing this because afterwards I’m flying to New York for Fashion Week and I know that the girls there, unfortunately, are even thinner than thin. Ideally, I would like to take a ‘fuck it’ stance, but unfortunately, I haven’t reached the title of top model yet. So to make my chances as big as possible, I have to go along with the ‘trend’. Hopefully, in 2020, the ’embrace yourself as you are’ trend, which started in 2019, will continue. More variety on the catwalk, in magazines, and on billboards, that seems like a nice goal for 2020.
Another New Year's resolution for 2020 is that I want to take the train more and fly less, wherever possible. For long distances, the train can’t compete, but Paris and London are now nicer by train. The flights I do have to take, I always compensate by planting a tree. You can often check this box with the airline when you buy a ticket. But I prefer to buy it off on the website www.treesforall.nl. There you can choose in which area you want to plant your trees. You can also compensate for other types of transport, such as cars, ferries, and trains, in addition to flights.
Furthermore, I think that 2020 will be largely about consuming less. Buy less, recycle more. If you do want to buy something, pay close attention to how a product is made and where it comes from. Websites like AliExpress are the worst! Not only are products shipped from faraway countries, but the quality is also terrible and the working conditions are appalling. So, prefer locally made sustainable products that last a long time. This applies not only to ‘things’ but also to clothing and food.
I am sure that 2020 is going to be a special year. Firstly, because I am obsessed with how beautiful the number 2020 is, but also because quite a few things changed for me in 2019 that will continue to grow in 2020 (shoutout to friends, love, study, and new cities to conquer). I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen and I’ll take you along on my journey again this year through this diary.
I wish everyone a wonderful 2020. May all your dreams come true!
XX Kisses from Lily
