Elephant mom and child reunited after 12 years

How hard did you cry during the movie Dumbo when mother and child were separated? Unfortunately, that happens in real life too. There was a mother elephant Pori who was brought from Zimbabwe to a German zoo to care for baby elephants. She succeeded, as she gave birth to little Tana. But when Tana was still a calf, she was sent to another zoo and the two were separated. Traumatic for elephants that normally live in herds, and thus with the whole family together. Tana also did what was expected of her and gave birth to Tamika and Elani, but she had to miss her mother.

Until last week. The director of the Zoologischer Garten in Halle decided to bring back those family structures in the zoo and reunite Pori with her daughter and grandchildren. The elephants were affectionate towards each other, intertwined their trunks, and enjoyed seeing each other. The director keeps the zoo closed for a few days so that the elephants can sniff each other and enjoy each other's company in silence and peace, without onlookers.

Should that director receive an award?
