End of an era: Matthijs van Nieuwkerk stops with DWDD

Good moooorning push notification. With this morning news that on one hand was somewhat expected: De Wereld Draait Door is coming to an end. However, Matthijs will remain at the public broadcaster after much deliberation.

What is it that talk shows spontaneously stop? First, Late Night fell, then Jeroen Pauw hung up his talk show, and now Matthijs? Are talk shows no longer of this time? Or wait a minute... Are we talking about a new trend here? I mean, Jinek is going like crazy. Merel Westrik is the talent of Ladiesnight, Margriet van der Linden with her own talk show M, and the sympathetic Marlijn Weerdenburg rocks Moltalk like no other. Wait a minute. Are the TV titans making room for a new generation of women? New round, new chances?

Anyway Matthijs, I think I speak for all of the Netherlands when I say that you are a hero. Fifteen years at that table, try standing there. By the way, he has signed on for three more years with BNNVARA for which he will create a new Saturday night program starting early next year. What exactly that program will be is still unknown, but knowing Matthijs, it won't be timid.
