Funny and effective concentration tips for home

The days turn into weeks and working from home is no longer that fun. You miss your colleagues and distractions are literally around every corner. Just concentrate for a moment, because with these funny yet effective concentration tips, you will get through your work-from-home day better.

Put your phone on the toilet
The biggest distraction right now is probably your phone. Just take a look at how much your screen time is at the moment. Social media apps, like Instagram and Facebook, are likely the main culprits right now. Are you also up to date with every news item that NOS has to report? A quick glance can quickly turn into a reading session of twenty minutes. The best way to prevent this distraction is to place your phone somewhere else, out of sight. The toilet is an ideal place for your support. You already take a break when you need to go to the little room. Combine that break with a few minutes with your phone.

Addicted to series? Watch an old - not exciting - series
Have you been binge-watching not one but three new series in the past few weeks? During these work-from-home days, the temptation is great to watch just a little bit of a new episode, and before you know it, you've spent another forty-five minutes. To give yourself that little series moment, it's better to put on a (short) series that you've seen before instead of a new one. The suspense is gone, but you still have your series moment to get through the (work)day. Tip: Friends and How I Met Your Mother are on Netflix and last about twenty minutes per episode. Perfect for a break.

This sounds like music to your ears
Put your earbuds in and shut yourself off from the world. That's easier said than done. Classical music might make your eyes close, and the top 40 list will make you focus on the lyrics. A recommendation is to try Binaural Beats, which have special frequency tones that quickly bring your brain into a certain mood. In this case, concentration. You don't need to do any other relaxation exercises with Binaural Beats; you just listen through your headphones. That sounds like music, right?

Put your blinders on
Do you often catch yourself looking for distractions? Everything that flashes by in your peripheral vision demands more attention than your computer screen. Like the empty boxes from your online shopping spree last week. Use an empty box wisely and literally build a closed space around yourself and your screen.

Remove social media from your phone
If even the toilet measure is not enough and you are doing more phone work than your actual work, you better take more drastic measures. And that means removing the apps from your phone. When you only turn off notifications, you will probably still be tempted to sneak a peek at which new memes have appeared on Instagram in the last fifteen minutes. Therefore, remove the apps from your phone. After your workday, you can just download them again; your data is not lost. Give yourself a pat on the back if you survived a social media-free workday.
