Hiking is hot: the 5 coolest routes to walk
Now that we've established that walking is not just for the seasoned hiker or for those over fifty, we're of course also looking for some nice routes. Hiking is hot, even Hollywood proves that with a Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber putting on their hiking shoes. Get on the paths and into the lanes, because you walk the stress out of your head and body. Did you know there are countries where doctors prescribe walks? What are you waiting for...
The Netherlands has its own Camino
A route across the Netherlands, from Pieterburen in Groningen to Sint-Pietersberg in Limburg. The longest in the country and in hiking terms also known as a LAW. You qualify for the abbreviation LAW (long-distance walk) if you are longer than 100 kilometers. The Pieterpad is 498 kilometers and also ideal to do in parts. I plan to walk it someday and I solemnly promise to gather the best addresses for you.
The Rolls Royce of hikes
Off to Drenthe, where you combine a two-hour walk with a stay in your own Cabin. Chopping wood for fire and pumping water to shower. It's just like Expedition Robinson, but without the challenges.
Drive to an unknown city
Because forest and beach are nice, but you discover a new city on foot. I walked for five hours through Venice and took every back alley I encountered, which led me to a wine bar among the locals. But this also applies to cities in the Netherlands, because just try walking in Den Bosch where the hustle and bustle of the center ends. It's not your typical hike with the same pace, but you easily clock in fifteen kilometers with some pit stops along the way. And through those pit stops, you really get to know a city.

Do you know the Kennemer?
The paths and lanes are fun, but don't forget our dunes. In National Park Zuid-Kennemerland, you can indulge yourself. A stroll of about a kilometer or would you prefer a solid 16 kilometers? It's the favorite of the experts from Backtonature. Nice and close to Amsterdam, wild horses and Scottish Highlanders, a breathtaking view of the sea, and your route starts and ends at Parnassia aan Zee, where you have a toilet with the best view ever?! I'm already curious.
The heath in Bergen op Zoom
Where you have a choice between walks of three kilometers (for the lazier Sunday) to a hefty fifteen kilometers for those legs. Whether you take the shortcut or its longer brother or sister over the heath, at the end, De Berk awaits you, where you can warm up around the fire in one of the cabins in winter, accompanied by a good snack board and a nice glass of wine.
