Lils Preggo Talk

50 things to do during your maternity leave

Shit. Got. Real. Suddenly I'm due in a month, the baby boy is as big as a watermelon, and my maternity leave officially starts next week (yes, really!). So excited to finally meet the little one, give in to my cleaning urge, and a catch-up on Netflix to schedule, but at the same time, I also feel a bit of panic about those last few weeks. Am I really ready for this? Whaaa, yes, no, yes, come on, you can do it, Lil. And I don't know if it's just me, but one moment I'm complaining about how slowly those last weeks are dragging on, only to catch myself less than 24 hours later waddling in a race against the clock.

And maybe you thought so, but despite the above list, boredom is still not an option. One activity is a bit more useful than the other, but one thing is for sure: thanks to these 50 things to do, there will never be a dull moment for you in the coming month, we definitely won't forget to enjoy, we'll prepare extra well for the due day, and in between, you can also indulge in your cravings and nesting instinct. Here they come:

1. All the way waxing so that no stubble gets in your way in the coming weeks.

2. Really schedule a good mani and pedi for yourself.

3. Buy a fancy pajama for yourself, I bet we’ll be spending a lot of time in them in the coming period.

4. Get a haircut.

5. Experience PANIC 12 times a day: am I really ready? YES. YOU ARE. WE ARE.

6. Give in to your cravings and bake a lot of cakes and especially eat them.

7. Cook your favorite meals to freeze them for when there’s no time to spend hours in the kitchen during the postpartum period.

8. Quickly earn some extra cash and your inner sales pro on Marktplaats let go. By the way, you do this best.

9. Make a birth gold wishlist for yourself to subtly slide under your lover's nose. We have a C, we have an H – A – N – E – L. We have Chaaaanel.

10. Sort your clothes and books by color. Looks so nice and works best in combination with that nesting instinct.

11. Nesting instinct case part 2: throw away all the dried-up nail polishes, bet that more than half has seen better days?

12. And part 3: clean the spots in the house that you usually always forget. Read: behind the toilet, your plants, household appliances, baseboards, doorknobs, and last but not least the light switches.

13. And, um, 4. Wash your curtains, cushions, or if necessary your rug, wash, wash, wash.

14. 5? Repot your plants and take cuttings.

15. And since you’re nesting so nicely: arrange your kitchen herbs in alphabetical order and sort your snacks by calories, ha-ha.

16. And don’t forget to descale your kettle and coffee maker.

17. Treat yourself to a next-level spa day including hands, feet, belly, butt, and face mask in pajamas.

18. Learn how to sew. Crea bea is in thaaaa house.

19. At the last minute, catch a yoga class or breath training. You never know what it’s good for, right?

20. Grey’s Anatomy to get used to those hospital beds and medical terms and okay, also just really for this.

21. Schedule a photoshoot with your baby bump.

22. To then make a photo book from it.

23. Pluck and dye your eyebrows.

24. Make a catch-up on your pregnancy diary.

25. Restyle that one messy corner in the house.

26. Collect the addresses to send out the perfect birth announcement around.

27. And once the addresses are complete, also write all the envelopes and affix a stamp.

28. Have a statue made of your baby bump at leBump Studio.

29. And don’t forget to pack your flight suitcase. Ready or not, it’s really time for that now.

30. Take a – mmmm – nap every day.

31. Do a lot of baby laundry with Zwitsal detergent running.

32. Have an extensive lunch with all your favorite people.

33. Boil and prepare the bottles and pacifiers. Well, you can be busy with that, right?

34. Go on a babymoon with your love. Even if it’s just for a night in a super chic hotel or a romantic beach hut on the coast. Just one last time together on a mini vacay.

35. Learn to understand the ‘BeSafe’ click system of your stroller and car seat. What’s so super easy about that? Meine gute.

36. Cuddle a lot with your older children, dog, cat, or even guinea pig.

37. Raise your bed with those hideously ugly bed risers.

38. Swim. Moving in the water is said to be extra nice for your round belly.

39. Make a puzzle of at least 1000 pieces.

40. Learn a new language.

41. Start organizing your BF’s birthday bash in November. Look, now you have plenty of time for that, HA.

42. Make a list of baby gifts.

43. Let a beautiful moon portrait be made by Mei Fang Tan .

44. Go to the cinema alone in the morning. Sounds sooooo delightful to me.

45. Take 436 photos of a tidy, completely styled, impractical nursery for Instagram.

46. And take at least as many photos of your belly with the self-timer.

47. And then edit all those photos for half a day.

48. Rewatch all episodes of ‘one born every minute’ and ‘Four Hands On One Belly’. I mean: then you can do it too, right?

49. Eat a lot of ice cream.

50. A (delightful weekday) day of corona-proof shopping in outlet Roermond to then totally shop the baby section of all your favorite designers empty.

So, and now onto my latest favorite finds for the baby. For a few days now, not only is there an incredibly handsome black on black customized Joolz Day 3 ride waiting for the little one, but I also have a brilliant tip tip tip for when you want to go on vacation with baby and ride. You won't be dragging a heavy cart around, but you’ll stroll into the wide world with the YOYO2 from Babyzen. It’s a stroller that you can fold in and out with one hand, super easy to carry over your shoulder, chills easily on your coat rack at home, comes with many nice extra options and accessories, and can simply be taken as hand luggage on the plane.

What else do I have on offer for us? The tastiest non-alcoholic drinks. First of all, the sparkling gold and rosé wines from Vinada, where you don’t even miss the alcohol, it’s so good, and for the GT-lovers, an amazing non-alcoholic alternative for gin with a touch of citrus and herbs. You understand: this weekend it’s all going to be consumed and I’ll be toasting non-stop to my leave. Oh, and let’s agree to meet again in a few months on the same day and time? We’ll just turn Lils Preggo Praat into Lils Baby Brabbels. Sounds the coziest to me. And you understand: when the little man decides to arrive, I’ll let you know ASAP. Cheers babes, and see you soon.
