Love Island season 2: this is everything you want to know

Handing in your phone, no contact with the outside world, and embarking on a quest for love with ten other singles in a Spanish villa. Meanwhile, Big Brother is watching you (yes, there’s even a moving camera in the toilet, hello), while you try to find true love. All of this without any vulgar nonsense, if possible.
Season 1 has proven: Love Island is at its core a brilliant format. And true love comes out of it, as evidenced by the still adorable photos that Love Island participants Denzel and Aleksandra are sharing with the world. This coming Monday it’s happening: season 2. Let me call my friends at RTL to see if they are completely ready for it.
Robin (spokesperson, hi!), straight to the point. Season 2, what can we expect?
‘While the autumn weather in the Netherlands starts to kick in, the sun is shining over a new villa in Gran Canaria. This season, Dutch and Flemish singles are once again searching for true love. It’s always difficult to gauge what we can expect, also because the viewers have a big say in the series, but let’s hope that many new loves will be born.’
What challenges did you face during this period?
‘Filming this program during corona is already quite a challenge and may remain a challenge in the coming weeks. We have taken all necessary measures on location to film the series safely and responsibly. And we really have to take it day by day. For example, last Monday the travel advice for Gran Canaria turned orange. Fortunately, the entire core cast + some bombshells were already on the island. So the show can just start.’
How does this season differ from the first?
‘The concept is of course the same: the ultimate search for love. But we are indeed looking at how we can make this season different from the previous one. We have dusted off a brand new villa and there are a few new challenges that will be played. Additionally, the weekly recap episode this year is even more filled with exclusive content about our Islanders.’
And any new features in the house that we should know about?
‘A completely new house, hello!? What more do you want?’
What do the viewers at home really not expect?
‘The coolest fact I can give is that there might be a very big plot twist this season. But what that is, yes, you really have to watch to find out…’
Oh my, the cliffhanger of GTST is nothing compared to this. You understand: I’m ready for it. This coming Monday we’re starting, every day at 21:30 on RTL 5 and Videoland. Are you ready for some luvvvv? I am!
