Moet bezoeken: Mistaken Point in Canada

Now that we are not traveling as often and far, it is important to orient yourself. That’s why I’m browsing from Lonely Planet to CN Traveller to dive into National Geographic and there I stumbled upon new heritage on the Unesco list.
Mistaken Point, the name already makes me curious enough to want to pay a visit. The 17-kilometer long and narrow rock coast is the easternmost point of Canada. The coastline of Newfoundland is rugged and houses the oldest found fossils, which are about 560 to 580 million years old, let's not quibble over a few million. Just wrap your head around that time. The rock coast was once sea and this piece of land is of inestimable value, as it is here that traces of larger fossils have been found for the first time. A mention on the World Heritage list seems appropriate to me as well.
Back to the name, because it continues to intrigue. It is said to often be foggy in this part of Canada. Because visibility is reduced, the cliffs are often mistaken for Cape Race from the sea, which is nearby Mistaken Point. And voilà, the little creature has a name.
