Music lovers: something is coming for you on Netflix

Confession: I love musicals. That love started with The Sound Of Music and has never gone away. In fact, it has only grown bigger. I can now quote the entire movie, sing along to all the Disney songs, and the songs from Grease are my standard go-to at karaoke. In short: I really love musicals.
And that is also a very underrated genre on Netflix. BUT there has been a change in that lately. With varying success, by the way, because recently the series Soundtrack was released and it was... Not very well received. I watched four episodes and I found it quite strange. Not exactly what I expected from a musical. New round, new chances, because a replacement is coming. And: this one is directed by the same man who did it for La La Land. So expectations are high.
The new addition is called The Eddy, with Damien Chazelle in the lead role. And surprisingly, it is a French series (made by Americans), so expect a lot of French chansons. Mais oui, bien sûr. Damien Chazelle is the only English speaker in the series, he plays Elliot Udo, a man who was once a celebrated jazz artist in New York but is now the owner of a jazz club in Paris. He and his ex-girlfriend Maja manage the house band, who is the lead singer. That already causes some problems.
And those problems pile up when Elliot's partner, Farid, gets caught with his dubious practices. Farid's wife also gets involved, Elliot's daughter suddenly shows up, the existence of the club is in danger – drama, drama, drama. So it's clear this is not a comedy series, so besides the popcorn, also prepare the tissues because this could very well be a tearjerker.
But to be fair: overall, I am really looking forward to this series. In Paris. With songs — excuse me, with French chansons (important difference). Good drama. I personally found La La Land a rather vague film, but it was certainly well put together. And we can probably still watch The Eddy during that quarantine: it comes out on May 8. At least that's one plus point about staying home longer.
