New on Netflix: Never Have I Ever

I only knew this title as a drinking game, but from now on I also have another association with it: a new Netflix series. Never Have I Ever is the latest addition, or rather, almost addition, because it is not out yet. This new drama/comedy series is coming out in the middle of our quarantine: April 27. In other words: King's Day. In other words, a day we unfortunately won't be celebrating this year. Then binge-watching it is the alternative.
Never Have I Ever is a series by Mindy Kaling, whom you might know from her own comedy series but also from the American version of The Office, where I really thought she was awesome. So incredibly dry (the whole series is of course). That is definitely a bit of her style of humor, so hopefully we will see that here as well.
The series is definitely quite personal for her, as it is inspired by her own youth. An Indian-American girl, Devi Vishwakumar, in high school where things are not going well. Last year was just crap, that's how she describes it in the trailer. So this year she wants to approach it differently and she needs a few things for that. One: an invitation to a party where there is alcohol and drugs, so she can wisely decline the cocaine. Two: her arm hair really needs to be thinner, because it can't be like that anymore. And three: she wants a boyfriend. But not a nerd. Someone from a sports team or something, can be dumb, as long as he is handsome.
So not very serious wishes, but a lovely high school list from a girl who wants to know what it’s like to belong and maybe even be popular. The first season has ten episodes and of course Netflix releases all ten at once online (love it). Even though I am really way too old to be watching this kind of stuff, I still love high school series. I recently finished watching high school Dare Me in one sitting and Sex Education is also the most fun. So the expectations are quite high here, especially because I really like Mindy Kaling. And to be honest: I am just glad that a new series is coming in these harsh times so we can watch something new. Because now I am.
watching it for the second time. Time for something new then, April 27. Love Is Blind Never have I ever on Netflix.
