Now on Netflix: new movie with our Marwan Kenzari
Yeah, if there's something new from Dutch soil, we should of course support it right away, that seems clear to me. Often enough, what we fully create ourselves isn't all that great *cough* Ares *cough*, but we really do have some gems. Like Marwan Kenzari, the man who even managed to make Jafar, sexy. Well, then you must come from good stock. In fact, I found the real-life Aladdin a bit disappointing… Except for Marwan. From that moment on, he is reason enough to set up a movie. So that works out well, because The Old Guard is now on Netflix. Yes, with Marwan Kenzari. And — another plus —.
my girl crush Charlize Theron. It's really nice that there's also a Belgian touch to it because Matthias Schoenaerts is also in it. He is really on his way to becoming an A-lister in Hollywood. So at least the cast is solid. And, he is already getting a top review in Het Parool (which often aligns with my opinion, so I take their reviews quite seriously), in other words: I'm going to watch this movie. Now, I also happened to hear the good news today that Tony’s Chocolonely has new mini-packages, so you can already picture how I'll be tonight. Round as a ton with an empty bottle of wine and all empty packages around me. Ah, sometimes I'm so proud of myself. But well, maybe the story is also important to know. It is based on a comic book, but don't expect Riverdale-like antics: this is just a nice action movie. And what a movie it is, because there clearly wasn't any budget cut on the special effects. It all looks really cool. Marwan plays an immortal mercenary who has been wandering the earth since the Crusades. Quite a while, then. But he is not the only one: Charlize Theron and Matthias Schoenaerts are also part of his immortal clan that tries to protect the earth as best as possible.
For centuries, they have been traveling to conflict areas to contribute to a better world. And that went quite well all that time, but we have to throw a spanner in the works in 2020. Because everyone now has a camera in their pocket on their phone, the ageless faces of this clan start to stand out a bit. And then they are not approached by a beauty brand to become ambassadors, unfortunately, no, a pharmaceutical company is going to try to steal their DNA to produce pills that keep you eternally young. A bit of an aggressive approach, but honestly: I would buy those pills.
Quite an exciting movie with the necessary action then. And a nice change from the brainless films that I usually watch quite a lot. I'm looking forward to my movie night.
