Our cycle must come out of the taboo sphere
It started as such a fun idea, but I have now become a slave to my own success... Quarantine Crafting with Carolien turns out to be something that people really want to see, especially because of all the messing around and swearing from yours truly. I must say that I also love coming up with and executing ideas, but I keep hitting that Wednesday evening deadline. So yesterday afternoon I came up with a fun idea, tried to film it in the evening but that completely failed... And so I got up extra early this morning to film a new episode with my sleepy head on camera. But it has really turned into a fun crafting project again. What am I going to make? Tomorrow is World Menstruation Day and on this day Cycle Care opens a hotline where you can go with all your questions about menstruation and all hormonal/sexual complaints that come with it. When this organization called me to ask if I wanted to pay attention to this, I was shocked: in the Netherlands, there is menstruation poverty, meaning there are many women who cannot afford to buy pads or tampons. That is why Cycle Care is also launching an initiative with the Food Bank Foundation Drenthe and the Good Feeling Foundation in the fight against menstruation poverty: ‘Buy a cup, give a cup’. For every menstrual cup sold on their platform, they give one away to someone who cannot afford menstrual products. Their slogan: ‘It's bloody time to bring the female cycle out of the taboo zone’ and I completely agree!
In the past few months, I have only bought Designer Vintage items instead of something new and that made me quite happy. It was the search for that one perfect pair of Acne jeans from last year or those amazing sneakers from this season that are already vintage. Besides the many Designer Vintage websites (my favorites: Vestiaire, The Next Closet, and Designer Vintage), you have in Amsterdam the LIFE-THREATENING Salon Heleen Hülsmann, filled with designer goodies for really beautiful prices. I made the mistake of ‘just’ going inside and then walking out with a bag, two pairs of pants, and a biker jacket. But oh so happy with my new, sustainable purchases.
Since our Proud Mom collection was launched in November, we had the idea to add stars and hearts to our collection, for all (wish) moms who have to miss someone. The production took a while due to the global lockdown, but with a lot of pride and love, these charms are now available as an addition to the existing collection.
