The seven biggest sneaker trends of 2020

Are we saying goodbye to our ugly dad duo this year? Are their white sneakers still our savior in fashion emergencies? And are these Nike sneakers from 2020 hot or already not? Ready or not, the year is on ‘refresh’ and that also means new trends in sneakerland. Who are we waving goodbye to and where are we making room? These are the six sneaker trends of 2020:

1. Bulky tech it
The bulky sneaker makes way for the ’tech’ way, meaning sneakers are still big and chunky this year but a lot more minimalist with the Nike P-6000, the Puma RS-X, and the Adidas Ozweego sneakers as favorites.

2. Holy graphic
Where last year we preferred to dip our sneakers in a metallic lacquer layer, this year it’s colorful silver, made possible by the holographic effect on our footwear.

3. Asics for the win
Blame it on the ugly dad trend or grandpa style straight from the runway, but the Asics sneakers are back, with the Gel-1090 model scoring extra points with the fashion crowd.

4. Sculpted midsole
The chunky shoe sole is also hot this year, with sculpted midsoles in a cool color for the real daredevils, like the Nike Zoom X Vista Grind babes.

5. All Stars at their highest
All Stars are always a good idea, with an extra high version this year for the sneaker freaks among us.

6. Gemma Glitter
The best excuse to wear glitter every day: your Nike Air Max 97.

7. Let’s go platform
For extra height, high heels are no longer your only option. Platform soles are the thing and preferably in combination with a sneaker. Who dares?
