The nicest hotspots by the water (lake and river edition)
My mission this year is to make the Dutch summer feel like a foreign summer. And honestly, I'm doing quite well at it. I even find it somewhat enjoyable (well… I don't mind, that's already something) to discover the beautiful spots in the Netherlands. Pre-corona, my standard go-to was the beach for a summer day, but now we have to be a bit more creative. Not a problem at all, because I've lined up the nicest hotspots by the water for you. By the water as in: along the lakes and rivers in the Netherlands. The beach is so 2019.
The most beautiful terraces by the water in the Netherlands
1. Villa Westend
Such a beautiful terrace this is. A bit of tropical beach vibes, also a bit of luxury vibes, delicious food, a campfire, and a particularly beautiful (and quiet) view.

2. Restaurant Marina Beachclub
Actually has a bit of the same ingredients as the spot above, but then in Zeeland. A big plus is that if you're here during the day, you can also swim and lounge on a nice four-poster bed. And then in the evening, have something to eat, because you won't want to leave here. You don't have to if you book a night here, because they have very nice villas.

3. Lodge at the Lake
I am completely in love with this interior at this hotspot in Sweet Lake City. Both inside and outside, by the way. Outside, you sit very comfortably by the water, in a hanging chair, lying on a four-poster bed, at a table, whatever you want.

4. Waterkant
You need a bit of luck at this spot, because it is always completely full. Understandably so, because you are sitting here by the canals. The food is super delicious, and the beer they brew themselves (Biri) is great too.

5. Restaurant AIM
Fine dining with a view at the Loosdrechtse Plassen. A real recommendation if there is a special occasion or if you have something to celebrate. Or just because, of course.

6. Key West Beachhouse
You do feel a bit like you're at the beach at this spot, but it's actually just in Utrecht. A lovely city beach, where you can also swim if you need some cooling off. On the terrace, it's definitely nice to hang out, and they also have plenty of cooling in the form of cold drinks and cocktails.

7. Mooirivier
A particularly beautiful quiet spot by the Vecht with very delicious food. Upstairs, you also have a terrace with a view over the river, and there are lounge sofas; downstairs, you are really by the water. Absolutely ideal if you book a night away at the hotel.

8. Aloha
Nice low-key spot and as you might expect from this name, you find sunny vibes here all year round. With a nice view over the Maas and completely away from the hustle and bustle (except for the hustle and bustle of the spot itself, of course — do make a reservation).

9. Paviljoen Het Houtse Meer
Between Oosterhout and Breda you find this gem, because it really is one. With a bit of luck, you have a lounge sofa for you and your company by the water. You can meanwhile dip your toes, tan, and enjoy the food and drinks.
