The Oscars 2020: winners, losers and everything you want to know

Oscars 2020

Yesss, LIVE from New York I bring you the Oscar report. Indeed: the city that never sleeps. Especially now, because that little time difference of six hours is no joke. But I have nothing to complain about, because besides the fact that it's an amazing city, I also got to see the Oscars live for the very first time. Normally, I would watch the best moments on YouTube the next day and check out the outfits online. But no, I completely immersed myself in it last night. My first impression? Long. Very. Long. And so many categories, wow. So whether I would really recommend setting your alarm in the middle of the night for it: nah. Because these were the highlights, so you immediately know what to YouTube.

The very first category that was awarded was for Best Male Supporting Actor (welcome surprise, I thought the less exciting categories would come first). And yes, Brad Pitt the winner. His very first Oscar for an acting performance ever (he previously won for producing 12 Years A Slave). It was about time… He had a nice speech, got a bit emotional here and there, made a political statement (go Brad), namely that he totally disagrees with the impeachment ruling. Brad ended by dedicating his Oscar to his kids (aww) and unfortunately, we all hoped for it, but no personal thank you to Jen.

The example of self-mockery: James Corden and Rebel Wilson who presented the Award for Best Visual Effects, for which their film (Cats) was obviously not nominated. Because it was terribly bad, and they eventually realized that themselves. They came on stage in their Cats outfits to make fun of themselves. Well, best way to deal with such a flop, I think?

Laura Dern won the Oscar for Best Female Supporting Actor (unfortunately no Margot Robbie), and Eminem came to perform (and did Lose Yourself). Joaquin Phoenix did well in the awards with Joker, who took home the award for Best Male Actor. Renée Zellweger won for her role in Judy. The best film? That was the South Korean film Parasite. I definitely need to check that out... Because I had never heard of it, so I can't say yet if it's a recommendation, but it must be, right? The first non-English language film to ever win. My expectations are high.
