The restaurants that are worthy of a star but just miss out on one

Bib Gourmand
The Bib Gourmands – derived from Bibendum, the name of the famous Michelin man – have been part of the Michelin guide since 1955. It is not a star, but – to quote the guide itself: ‘certainly no consolation prize either’. Bib Gourmands are awarded to restaurants that deliver high quality for a reasonable price. In other words: a very good three-course menu, excluding drinks, for a maximum of 39 euros. Each awarded restaurant guarantees according to Michelin ‘an irresistible ratio between price, quality, and pleasure.’
Initially, these restaurants were indicated in the guide with a red R. Since 1997, the cheerful Bib Gourmand symbol has been used: a picture of the Michelin man licking his lips. A restaurant cannot have a star and a Bib Gourmand at the same time.
Seventeen newcomers
In the new twelfth edition of the guide, there are seventeen Dutch newcomers. According to Michelin, there is a clear trend to point out: sharing, vegetables, and local products. These restaurants have joined – and are not only favorites of the taste testers of Bib Gourmand, but are also favorite spots of many star chefs!
