The Sister Files: these famous sisters are not so happy with their families

Being born into a famous family, it didn't happen to me, but if celebrities are to be believed, it is for the best. After all, having a famous relative seems to be hell on earth. Especially if you are sisters of each other. Something about always being in her shadow. Now, my first thought would be that if you want to get out of that shadow, you just find another place in your million-dollar home, because there is plenty of room there, it seems to me. But no, money doesn't make you happy and they have it real tough as ‘the sister of’. At least, if we are to believe Noah Cyrus... Yes indeed, ‘the sister of’ Miley. But there are more famous sisters who are not always happy with their relative. What is remarkable, though, is that these disgruntled sisters have picked the exact same industry to make success in. Well fine, I think there is something to this, but see here: The Sister Files.

1. Noah Cyrus vs. Miley Cyrus
I mentioned her briefly, but Noah is so not at all happy with Miley as a sister. This weekend, she went live on Instagram and did a post about what it's like growing up with Hannah Montana. Noah is now making a name for herself as a singer and such an experience as her childhood naturally cried out for a song. Young & Sad is about this and contains the following lyrics: ‘My sister's like sunshine / Always bringing good light wherever she will go / And I was born to rain clouds... Blessed in her shadows’. She herself said during her live session that these lyrics summed up her childhood exactly: ‘I think just the message of the second verse, being born in the family I was in, everybody gave me such a hard time for having a hard time being Miley's little sister.’ She also said that everyone always told her that no matter what, she will always be in Miley's shadow. Personally, that makes me wonder who on earth was constantly saying this to her. In any case, things seem to be working out for Noah, as she is now at the same spot as Miley in the charts.

2. Ashlee Simpson vs Jessica Simpson
In the year 1999, Jessica Simpson was still very much hot and happening. Hard to imagine and I feel bést old writing this down, because I too watched her real life show Newlyweds. Yes, the one in which she had just married Nick Lachey and in which she couldn't quite remember whether tuna was chicken or fish (also tricky). Jessica never really came across as the sharpest knife in the drawer, but perhaps that was also a bit part of her act. Her sister Ashlee did it a bit tougher: dyed her hair black, doing a bit of rocky pop songs and pretending to be very tough. Unfortunately, she fell through when, at Saturday Night Live, her music already started playing but she herself was nowhere near the microphone. Ai... And from then on, she has been complaining a lot about never being as successful because she was ‘the sister of’. Embittered much?

3. Rens Kroes vs. Doutzen Kroes
See, so that's how it can be. Two sisters who - maybe it is because of that - are both successful in different industries and who genuinely support each other and have a good relationship. So I can't say a whole lot of juicy stuff about this. I am a fan of the Kroeses.

4. Elle Fanning vs Dakota Fanning
Honestly, I didn't even know until quite recently that these were sisters. Another two sisters looking to make it in the same industry, by the way, only here the roles are reversed: Dakota was more famous than Elle, but isn't exactly an A-lister in Hollywood anymore. And she doesn't seem to find that entirely relaxing. Elle, meanwhile, is doing quite well and getting serious roles, Dakota, in turn, is said to be furious about this and now mostly proclaims in interviews that it doesn't matter because ‘acting is not her priority anyway. Hm... Juicy. The two sisters are said to be out of touch and one now lives on the west coast of the US, the other on the east coast. Space enough between the two, then.

5. Solange Knowles vs. Beyoncé Knowles
Just rumours about these two, as Beyoncé has never said a word about this. Nor will she, I'm guessing. When the rumours circulated that Jay-Z was not completely faithful she didn't respond to anything either, except for a few sentences on her new album about Becky with the good haircut. But that something is not quite running smoothly is obvious, because a flying kick in a lift is not something you do lightly. Solange is also said to be quite frustrated about the fact that her singing career just won't take off. I think the lesson to be learned is that you don't want to follow your famous sister. Or do something in another field. But hey, what do I know. Nobody in my family is famous, nor did I grow up in a fat villa in Hollywood. It's better that way, because that seems to be really terrible.
