The Umbrella Academy breaks records on Netflix

Here I probably fell a bit short. Very short actually, because I think I've mentioned the series The Umbrella Academy exactly zero times. Ever. That can't really be right. Because when Stranger Things broke a Netflix record I was right there. But The Umbrella Academy… I don't know, it didn't seem that interesting to me. Coincidentally, a friend of mine said last Saturday that she stayed home to binge season 2 of this and then I thought for the first time: hey, I should look into this.
Well, she was clearly not the only one who binged that season, because a record has been broken. The Umbrella Academy has managed to be the only scripted series to stay at number one of the most-watched worldwide for 14 consecutive days. That means there is only one series left to catch up with: the non-scripted Tiger King. It held the top spot for 27 days, so 13 days to go.
But what exactly is The Umbrella Academy? The series is based on a comic book, but don't let that scare you off: Riverdale is too and we all still watch that (against better judgment). It does mean that it's not very realistic, but that doesn't matter: 43 women suddenly give birth to a child in 1989 — without actually being pregnant. Seven of those kids are adopted by a millionaire and then trained to be superheroes in — surprise — The Umbrella Academy.
So I feel really dumb because I genuinely thought it was a reality series and I was actually assuming it was some kind of clothing design series? Am I really that simple that I thought they were going to make umbrellas? I’m a little disappointed in myself here… But I’m going for it. The Umbrella Academy, break a record and I’m sold, we’re going to watch this.
