The year 2020 in search terms on Google

Presumably this is not quite the year you want to revisit, but it seems fun to zoom in on our Google behavior. Because: what did we want to know in times of a pandemic, who did we find interesting enough to search for and why?

It should be no surprise that ‘coronavirus’ was the most searched term of 2020 in our country. Closely followed by the RIVM and the American elections. Furthermore, we were also concerned about why people were hoarding toilet paper (good question) and we wanted to know everything about Noortje Herlaar, which seems to me a strong reference to The Masked Singer. It was the year of Tiger King, 1917, Over Mijn Lijk, Marco Borsato and Iris Hond, baking bread at home and asparagus recipes. Logical, because asparagus comes in May and we were all at home. Nice Google lists to dive into therefore.
