This Modern Family character did not get the ending she deserved

I actually hardly dare to type anything bad about Modern Family. I actually quite like Modern Family. I jumped for joy when seasons 9 and 10 finally came to Netflix. last week. Of course, I had caught a few of the new episodes on Comedy Central, but that's just a bit of a shame because you have no idea what's going on everywhere and suddenly you see people who are pregnant whom you didn't know were pregnant and more of that nonsense. Frustrating.
And all good things come to an end, and so did Modern Family announce that it was coming to an end. That in itself is of course not very surprising, especially not for a show that ultimately had ten seasons. And to be honest: I don't necessarily think there was a season that was clearly worse than the others, something you do see with many other shows. It's a bit of a shame that, as far as I'm concerned, they didn't make a very good choice when it comes to the kid actors.
Because come on, Manny and Luke are never going to win an Oscar, but Lily... She should never have come anywhere near an acting career, right? As she got older, in my opinion, she didn't deliver any lines smoothly or non-woodenly. But well, there is a Phil opposite her. And a Mitch and Cam. And Claire. And Jay and Gloria. Alex. And thus Haley.
And that last one, I want to talk to you about. Because the creators of Modern Family have really done Haley wrong. So unfair. All the growth she made in ten seasons: gone in one fell swoop. All undone in the last season. So even though I really enjoyed watching the tenth season, I choose to pretend it didn't happen. Why, you ask? Well, I have several reasons for that. No worries, no spoilers for the very last season that is not yet on Netflix.
Haley was doing so well. In the beginning, she was such a superficial, silly character who mainly lived on social media. And she managed to make money from that, while mom and dad thought she was just brainlessly partying (which she did quite a bit too). She also just took that job at NERP with that crazy boss. Just not taking ‘no’ for an answer: she wanted that job and boom, she went for it. She may have been kicked out of community college (what a classy lady she is), but that didn't stop her from earning her own money. What do you see here compared to season one? Growth.
In the first seasons, she was of course with Dylan and with other guys in between, but all those relationships were so... Brainless. And of course, Haley was still like that back then, but eventually, she chose Andy and that was finally her first serious relationship. In fact, she told him that he was the first one she really loved. And who does she go back to? DYLAN. After standing on her own two feet for seasons, getting a job, entering into a serious relationship with Andy, and then with Mr. British Professor. And that **(^% DYLAN comes back and immediately Haley is five seasons back in terms of personality.
And boom, immediately pregnant, job gone, and moving to a garage of five square meters. Really, writers, creators, producers of Modern Family: why did you do this? So sad, because of all the characters in the series, Haley had really grown the most. I can get really angry about that, as you might notice. Fortunately, I'm not the only one. No, actress Sarah Hyland — you know, the one who plays Haley — felt exactly the same way.
‘There are so many amazing mothers who are also hard workers and excel at their jobs and kill it every day in both aspects. That would have been a really cool thing to see, especially from someone like Haley.’ Additionally, she said she would have preferred to see ‘for Haley to own her badassery in the fashion world — becoming a badass stylist or brand mogul or anything like that.’ So, Modern Family: you have failed. Give Haley the ending she deserves.
