Wesley Sneijder: ‘I didn't realize that the bottle of vodka became my biggest friend’

Bam. Suddenly there were the confessions of Wesley. The former footballer is releasing a biography this coming Friday and is for the first time remarkably candid about his private life. In the story, he admits that vodka was his ‘best friend’ during his heyday at Real Madrid. And that rock-‘n-roll lifestyle, he claims he lived for quite a while. ‘You are worshipped as a Real player,’ he explains. ‘Everything you do is covered with the mantle of love.” This is partly why his first marriage fell apart. ‘I was left alone and saw that little one, Jessey, much less. Sucks.’ In hindsight, he didn't realize it was affecting his football skills. ‘I lied to myself that everything was fine. I also thought no one noticed.’ Hmm, now I have to honestly say, Wesley, I am curious about what else is in that book. And of course the big question: will there be anything in there about Yolanthe?
