Why you see #ShareTheMicNow everywhere on Instagram today

Maybe you saw it on Insta last week: all sorts of celebrities swapped their Instagram pages with Black women to let their voices be heard. “When the world listens to women, it listens to white women. For far too long, Black women’s voices have gone unheard, even though they’ve been using their voices loudly for centuries to enact change,” is the mission of #ShareTheMicNow. Today, the Insta action has been rolled out in the Netherlands. The campaign means that inspiring Black women swap Instagram accounts with white women for one day. A sadly necessary but beautiful initiative. If you want to know more about it, definitely check out the socials of among others Victoria Koblenko, Lieke van Lexmond, Anna Drijver, Halina Reijn, and Maan. Also keep an eye on the site tomorrow, our own Carolien is also participating in the movement. Oh, and if you search for #ShareTheMicNowNL, you will find an overview of the women participating today. Let’s listen to each other more often. Growth happens together.

I want to thank Latham (@glowmaven) for taking over my IG yesterday. Latham beautifully and fearlessly wrote about protecting Black bodies from conception, the Black Maternal Health Crisis, and the way the current wellness industry needs radical change to amplify, lift, and support Black wellness leaders who are doing profound work in the space. We stand with you @denisevasi @cleowade @mynameisjessamyn @ericachidi @pendajai @trinitymouzon @lalahdelia @gutbliss @chelsealovesyoga @_tinaj_ @celsious_social @sinikiwe.stephanie @maryamajayi and the many other incredible voices we’ve been lucky enough to work with over the years. We have so much more to do to make the wellness space more inclusive, and I’m personally thinking of big, impactful ways we can move the needle that I hope to share with you soon. Latham and I are chatting today on Instagram Live at 3 pm PST. Please join us. And if you have a favorite BIPOC wellness leader, please drop them into the comments.
