Why you should better skip day drinking

#daydrinking yields you one and a half million results when you search on Instagram. And that is more relevant than ever.
Because come on: you're just sitting at home due to the corona crisis. And then a glass of wine is so easy to grab, right? Out of boredom, out of comfort: we are drinking more during the day than ever. According to experts, it is tempting to give in, but they still warn against it. According to professor Kees Kramers, there are indeed downsides to drinking during the day: “The earlier in the day you start drinking, the greater the chance that you will drink more.”
But the main downside is your empty stomach. If you drink something with alcohol in the evening, at least you have built up a base in your stomach throughout the day. If you already have a drink during lunch, well, then you really have less food in your stomach to keep you a bit sober. If you drink after you have eaten a lot, you will also become drunk less quickly. So during the day, even a single drink can hit quite hard. And don't think that you will still manage to send sensible emails or do Zoom calls. At least 41 percent of the Dutch say they drink a glass of alcohol daily; men drink more than women. A modest 11 percent say they hardly drink alcohol, whether they are at home or not.
The fact remains, according to experts, that drinking less alcohol is still the healthiest, crisis or not. The WHO even officially warns: ‘Alcohol does not help if you are stressed due to the coronavirus’. So especially don't do it and if you do, at least wait until five o'clock. Just about manageable, right?
