Work It will be the new guilty pleasure on Netflix

Fans of Step Up, or — for long-time fans like me — of Save The Last Dance, and with a touch of Bring It On to top it off: pay attention. A nice, new addition is coming to Netflix and it's called Work It. The trailer is already out – and the release date is also set: August 7. I can live with that. Just three more weeks.
The lead actress is Quinn (Sabrina Carpenter, you might know her from Tall Girl, The Hate U Give, or because you're one of her over 20 million followers on Insta), a nerdy girl in high school. She is determined to get into one of the best universities, but… you have to do something for that. And in America, just getting straight A's isn't good enough, no: you also have to be busy with extracurricular activities.
And she has plenty of those, but for those universities, more is needed. So there's only one thing to do: sign up for your school's dance team. The dance team that your school happens to be quite famous for. The dance team that wins a lot of awards and has members who can dance incredibly well. And Quinn, well, she can't dance at all. The trailer starts with a prayer to Beyoncé: or Queen B, please help her a bit with that sense of rhythm and smooth hips. Hey B, if you're listening: you can also pass those smooth hips on to me. Thanks.
But Queen B doesn't seem to be listening, and Quinn is pretty much left out of the dance team. Clumsiness isn't really appreciated, and they make that clear, so Quinn bravely decides to set up her own team. With a friend (Liza Koshy, you might know her from Freakish or because you're one of her over 18 million followers) that she has recruited to join, they start scouting for members. They get a variety of members in their dance group, from a karate kid to a nerd: it's a good mix there.
Still, she manages to get a well-known choreographer (who is also handsome, of course) to teach her dance team a routine. But since no one can really dance, it becomes a challenging task. Of course, Quinn gets private lessons – and of course, we can see from miles away that these two will end up together, but a bit of predictability is allowed every now and then.
Then lastly: Work It comes from the same creators as The Kissing Booth and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. You know a bit in which category it will fall… And it just happens to be a category close to my heart. Guilty pleasure to the max.
