Yes, on this date season 5 of Lucifer is released

Oops, thanks. That must have been what Netflix thought yesterday when they accidentally posted the release date of Lucifer. Because that was definitely not the intention and it was quickly taken down again. But of course, there were already enough people who had taken a screenshot and this news went completely viral. And yes, just confirmed by Netflix: the very first devil (how sexy is Tom Ellis aka Lucifer?) is coming back on August 21.

That's definitely nice, because the whole future of Lucifer remains quite uncertain. Season four came online in May 2019, which is really a long time ago. And now season five is only coming in August — and not even the full fifth season, but part one. Probably due to corona, the entire season couldn't be filmed at once. We should maybe just be glad that we at least get something.

And the chance is now quite present that a sixth season is also coming. The creators had initially said that season five would be the final season and well, that was received fairly medium. People were angry. Petitions. Twitter tirades. And they realized they had to do something about that at Netflix, so they have already given actor Tom Ellis and the creators a contract for a possible sixth season. For now, that is still ‘possible’, yes, but come on, if a contract has already been signed, that sixth season is definitely coming, right? Love it.

Netflix is also playing quite open cards by the way: all episodes of this fifth season are already known. The very last episode (number 16) is called A Chance at a Happy Ending and something tells me that we won't be getting that happy ending for a while and that this fifth season will end with a big cliffhanger. But that will take a while, because on August 21 we will only get the first half. I really hope that Netflix puts the pedal to the metal and that the second part also comes online quickly.

And until then, I’ll just put this announcement on repeat. In love. With. Tom. Ellis.
