A sunrise walk is what you want to make tomorrow
The alarm went off at six o'clock, but I was already awake for five minutes. The early rising rhythm seems to be starting to develop. Quickly make a shake, coffee in it, put on my sleeping bag jacket, hat over my ears because it was -3 outside and go. I had to and would make a sunrise walk in the Kennemerduinen, now that I am holding office in Zandvoort for a week.
By the way, I didn't come up with that walk myself, I was hugely influenced by lterveld on Instagram. I saw all those beautiful sunrises in the Kennemerland passing by on her feed and now that I'm just three stumbles away from those dunes, it wasn't going to happen that I would go home without such a walk.
At exactly 7:01 AM (says Strava) we walked from the parking lot at Bloemendaal aan Zee into the dunes. It is important that you walk away from the sea, because otherwise you miss the whole rise. That still all happens in the east. How beautiful it is. You just have to make sure you're on a dune at the moment the sun shows itself, but then you have the most brilliant start to the day.
I saw hordes of rabbits, hares, three attentive deer, but we suddenly found ourselves face to face with a herd of Wisents, better known as the European bison. Good lord, those animals are enormous. I compared my footprint with that of a passing Wisent, but that's like a double size 43 hoof. Here is only very fleeting footage, because the Wisent with the largest horns suddenly stood up to stare at us. So I took off running. What a scaredy-cat I am.
The planned 4.8 suddenly became 8.9 kilometers, but let's just say it was a nice walk. And not that I of course refused to check the route more often in between. Around nine o'clock we walked the last meters on the beach. And now we are of course planning to live here. You understand that.
No plans for tomorrow yet? Set your alarm early, drive to a nature reserve with a good view of the sun, and pause for a moment when it shows itself for the first time. Your day doesn't start more beautifully than that.
