Archie is not going to be a prince after all

There is again trouble with the royal ball there in England. Now, this has been the case for a while, but now there seems to be something going on between Charles and Harry. Because even though Harry and his wife Meghan have stepped back from their royal titles, their little boy must officially be a prince, if it were up to them.

But if it were up to Charles… Not so much. In principle, Archie would only become a prince when Charles takes the throne from Queen Elizabeth, but the king-to-be would prefer to put a stop to that. The Daily Mail has all the ins and outs regarding this royal ‘downsizing’.

This scaling back of all titles is something the British royal family has been working on for a while, to make the monarchy a bit smaller. And that would mean that Archie will never receive that title. Not something personal against Archie himself, though it remains to be seen whether Harry will interpret it that way (The Daily Mail obviously thinks so).

The reason for the downsizing is quite reasonable: the English residents pay taxes for the entire monarchy, which is not getting any smaller. By making it smaller, the costs would significantly decrease, and I bet the British public would be on board with that idea.

This scaling back would ensure that only heirs to the throne and family titles are entitled to financial support from the state and receive police protection, and especially the latter is something Harry really wanted, as we know from the conversation with Oprah. A spicy detail: the kids of William and Kate do have those privileges.

Meghan and Harry have not publicly reacted yet, but according to ‘insiders’ (or it’s just a conclusion that The Daily Mail has drawn, of course) they are ‘outraged’ by this decision. I say: to be continued. The royal drama never ends.
