A late flight always leads to a half-baked night. Of course, it's wonderful to have one whole day left while traveling, but arriving at the airport in the dead of night feels like starting the next day at a disadvantage. Waiting for your luggage takes an eternity (and I mean an eternity, people), driving home (or getting someone crazy enough to pick you up) and then watering your plant at home; all in all, it's a bit of a hassle. It was more by chance than on purpose that I stayed overnight at Schiphol this time, as my house was still rented out. So I walked with my suitcase straight through the corridor to the parking garages into the hotel. I rang the bell at the Hilton, walked into the lounge (goodness, have you seen how beautiful it is?), grabbed some snacks at the desk and jumped into bed. The next morning I slept in a bit, watched the departing planes with coffee from my bed, had a leisurely breakfast with a freshly baked egg, and my family picked me up at a decent hour. It actually felt like an extension of my vacation. And that's what you want, right?
