How I Met Your Father is really coming now

How I Met your Mother cast

If there was one series that was talked about a lot regarding a possible sequel, it was How I Met Your Mother. The series ended in 2014, after nine seasons of listening to Ted talk about who the mother of his kids was, but just to be sure, I’ll say it again (in case you haven’t seen it all yet): here come some spoilers. Because how terrible was that last season? You invested eight (EIGHT) seasons in those storylines, all the little hints about who the mother was, and then we meet her… She’s really nice. Yes, perfect casting as far as I’m concerned. And then she becomes incredibly popular with the viewers, and you kill her off. In. One. Episode.

In that same episode, they also let us experience the divorce of Robin and Barney, which we had been dealing with the whole season without jokes. Anyway, the whole idea of spending 99 percent of a season on a wedding is one I don’t understand how it got past the selection committee. Then Barney suddenly has a child at the last minute, and his entire character development is undone in one episode. As the icing on the cake, dodo Ted also goes back to Robin, who has always been the one. What were we actually watching for nine seasons? I can still get angry about it.

I wasn’t the only one feeling this way, and I’m also not the only one who has a bit of a hard time believing in this sequel: How I Met Your Father. To be honest, I didn’t see it coming either, because there was already a pilot recorded before, and that never saw the light of day. But new round, new chances, and this time it’s with Hilary Duff in the lead role. That is actually very nice.

The setup is actually exactly the same, but the genders are reversed. Hilary Duff tells her kids how she met their father (I hope they keep that father alive this time). The original creators, namely Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, are also returning, so it will probably feel very much like HIMYM.

Not much more is known about it yet, except that Hilary Duff's character will be named Sophie and the series has been ordered by Hulu, an online streaming service. So there’s a good chance it will indeed only be available online. But when that will be… Keep you updated.
