New series on Netflix: Inventing Anna

Do you remember that girl from New York who turned out to be a master con artist? She managed to make everyone believe that she was a huge socialite, that she was loaded with money, and that she even wanted to open an art gallery. Meanwhile, she flew business class to tropical destinations that she had her friends pay for with an excuse. Every now and then, she would give those friends some money or pay for something herself (well, she pretended to), and she managed to keep this up for no less than four years: between 2013 and 2017, her entire environment believed that she was really a rich woman from a wealthy family. Her name? Anna Delvey.

This girl was actually Anna Sorokin, born in Germany and with Russian roots. Her father was not a rich guy, but just a truck driver: very different from her own story in which she pretended to be some kind of rich heiress. Eventually, she was sentenced to four years in prison in New York and the whole world knew who she was. Including Netflix. Definitely Netflix. Because of course, they saw a success story in this. And yes: the first images of Inventing Anna (the series about this lady) have just been released.

The series is being made by Shonda Rhimes, whom we know from, among other things, Grey’s Anatomy. The guiding principle for the series is the article by Jessica Pressler. She wrote a large piece for New York Magazine called How Anna Delvey Tricked New York. Mega interesting and here to read. She is also involved as a producer in this series.

The lead role will be played by Julia Garner (known from Ozark) and Laverne Cox and Anna Deavere Smith will also have roles. Unfortunately, no fixed release date has been announced yet, but it can't be long now. In fact, I hope it will be before the new year. Good deal. Netflix?
