Is that One Direction reunion really coming?

As for the hype surrounding One Direction, I was quite late to the party. I only realized I actually liked them a lot when I heard the song Drag Me Down, and by then Zayn had already left the band. That it was quite (to put it mildly) a big deal, that group, I had of course picked up on. But now I’m a fan and they’ve been apart for five years. Totally sucks. Now, of course, they are officially ‘on a break’, but just like with Ross and Rachel, opinions differ a bit on that. Because do you still speak of a break after five years or has it just become a hard break-up?

If it’s up to Simon Cowell, it is indeed a break and furthermore: he sees them getting back together soon. And that would all be thanks to him, because he claims to have it in him to persuade all four guys (we probably don’t need to count Zayn) to come together. ‘I think it’s going to happen. Whether it’s for a tour or to make an album, it would be amazing. If I could get them in a room together, that might be possible, even if it’s just for six months. I think they would have a great time.’ Side note: he also believes that Zayn will just be part of it again.

Will One Direction ever get back together?

Seriously, how good news would that be? I hope that Simon Cowell does a good job with this, because I bet there are millions of fans waiting for a concert tour, even if it’s just one with the greatest hits. That fans were sleeping outside the Ziggo Dome to secure a good spot: I found it bizarre, but I would do the same if they ever come back.

Okay, but let’s look at it critically: is this really feasible? Harry Styles is doing quite well, both musically and in his acting career, so whether he’s really waiting for it… The same goes for Niall Horan, who is doing a bit less but had monster hits with This Town, and also did quite well with Slow Hands, Nice To Meet Ya, and Too Much To Ask.

Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, on the other hand, are doing a lot worse and coincidentally, those two are the most vocal about their desire to get One Direction back together. But here’s an interesting detail: Louis signed with Simon Cowell’s record label called Syco, and was far from happy about it. After a lot of fuss, they finally parted ways in 2020, much to Louis's delight. Would he then go back to working with Simon? I hope so. That would make this Directioner very happy.
