Jobs you can easily do from abroad

Just fifty more nights of sleep and then I step on the plane to Greece. I'm at the point where I can't make any more plans with some friends before my departure, so the first date in November is already set. When I think of the revolving door at Schiphol, I want it to be tomorrow; I'm itching to go.

Now I could bore you with a handy packing list, filling my storage box, or making a temporary rental contract because that's pretty much what life consists of, but I'd rather whisper jobs to you that you can easily do from abroad. Here they come.

1. Everything marketing

Corona taught us that if you work in marketing, you actually never have to go to the office again. In theory, that is, because sometimes it's just nice to look colleagues deep in the eyes. Marketing can be done anywhere, as long as you have wifi and a laptop. Tip: don't agree on hours but on results, then you also have the freedom to organize your day yourself.

2. Online help

I say help, because online help comes in the form of customer service, but help is also that indispensable virtual assistant. Especially for the latter, there is a lot of demand at the moment. Emailing for customer service can simply be done with your laptop on your lap (not ergonomic, of course) from the lounge (always a good signal). And as a VA, it's very easy to make appointments because you are your own boss.

3. Start for yourself

Speaking of being your own boss: that's my way. This year I decided to work for myself. It allows you to pack your bags at almost any desired moment. Next week Ibiza? Sure. A week of office on Texel? I'm on my way. A few months in Mexico? Arriba, arriba! Tip: make sure you land a nice assignment before you leave, then you know you have enough work when you're abroad.

4. As a graphic mind

It works the same as in marketing, because everything graphic can be done from location. I often hear that these creatives work better from their own bubble. Well, that bubble can very well be on a random tropical island. Meetings go via Zoom and designing is much nicer with a view of sand and sea.

5. Everything online

Maybe I should have started with this, but almost everything can be done online in 2021. Yoga? Just take a class via YouTube. Nutrition consultant? Schedule an appointment via Teams. The options are endless, maybe even with the job you already have. Just go and see if it can be discussed.

What else do you need? The courage to go for it. It helps to remember that you can always return to that nine to five-job when you come back, if you still want that, of course. And otherwise, this is the way to practice.
