Marco Borsato says: ‘Divorce has been the biggest mistake’

When everything is a bit normal again, I genuinely look forward to passionately singing along with Marco Borsato with a glass too many. Whether it's an Ik Leef Niet Meer Voor Jou or a duet Wereld Zonder Jou: I'm excited about it. I also always find Rood a hit and I've played the song with Davina Michelle to death. Is that still a somewhat common expression? Better said: Spotify almost asked me if I was doing okay and if there were any other songs I could play.
Okay, so I'm a fan. But even if you're not and you'd rather not hear anything about Marco, even then you can't have missed that he's not had the best time. A divorce, a burnout: not very pleasant at all. And that's what photographer William Rutten wants to talk to him about in his online series ‘Op de gevoelige plaat’. And he knows that the past period has not been easy for Marco. On Instagram, he writes under a photo of the two of them: ‘He's had a tough time and is slowly crawling out of a deep valley.’
In the series ‘Op de gevoelige plaat’, William and Marco look at various photos together, from the past period to as far back as 31 years. From perhaps the most beautiful moment of his career (winning an Edison in 1999, which his father presented to him) to the low points when it comes to his family. ‘Of all the roles I have, being a father is the most serious,’ he says about fatherhood.
Of course, his divorce is also discussed when William asks if he regrets anything from the past 31 years. He doesn't have to think long about it and answers within a millisecond: ‘That's my divorce. I think — that has hit hard.’
Now it's going around in the Gooi that Leontine and Marco have cautiously picked up the thread as a couple again, but for now, that's exactly what it is: gossip. He says to William about it: ‘The kids are doing well, Leontine is doing well, and I am doing well.’
