Mega overview: this is what Meghan and Harry told Oprah on the couch

So, I'm very curious about the viewership numbers of this TV spectacle. They must have set a record. Anyway, The Royal Family, which from now on I will only refer to as The Firm, didn't seem very relaxed, I guess. Not cozy with a cup of tea and a blanket like: oh, we're just going to enjoy watching Harry and Meghan. No, they could see the storm coming. Because honestly: I actually thought it might not be that bad. It was presented so sensationally with the trailers that came out one by one that I wouldn't be surprised if no hot tea was served at all. But I can tell you: I was wrong. They don't drink it as hot as this in England, you know. These are the highlights that have been discussed, so you already know everything before you can watch it yourself tomorrow night on Net5.

1. The racism that Meghan had to deal with was really not mild. Harry's family reportedly inquired, even before he was born, how dark Archie's skin might be. And suppose he did indeed get a darker skin color, then The Firm was already busy discussing how they could handle that. That he wouldn't receive a title and no security was already a given. I have just three words for this: What. The. Fuck.

2. Kate and Meghan are indeed not the best friends. Those rumors have been circulating for a long time and turn out to be true. Days before the wedding, Meghan broke down in tears over things that Kate was spreading. Lies that she refused to correct. Later it came out that it was the other way around: Meghan had made Kate cry. Meghan hints that these rumors came from Kate's camp, to put her in a better light and Meghan in a worse one. Nevertheless, she thinks Kate is a good person and there is no hatred involved.

3. The lack of freedom in The Firm weighed so heavily on Meghan that she struggled with suicidal thoughts, but any form of mental health support was denied to her. After she told Harry this, he found her mentally not fit enough to attend events. But, you guessed it: this was not accepted by The Firm and Meghan had to show up anyway.

4. The relationship between father Charles and Harry has also cooled significantly; according to Harry, he no longer answered his calls, completely cut off all financial support, and Meghan and he could no longer count on security. By now, the calls are reportedly being answered again, but a lot has been broken and there is a lot of sadness with Harry.

5. Harry's family members are ‘trapped’ and ‘stuck’, according to Harry. They have little control over their own lives and the urge to curry favor with the British press is incredibly strong. Because yes, we now know what happens if you go against the grain.

6. And the relationship between the brothers, Harry and William? That is currently not at its best, Harry admits. ‘The relationship is ‘space’, at the moment. Time heals all things,’ he adds, clearly cautious with his words.

7. Meghan is less cautious about this: she regrets believing them when they said they would protect Harry and her.

8. How is Harry getting by now that he suddenly receives no financial support? His mother Diana left him an inheritance (reportedly around ten million pounds). ‘I think she saw this coming,’ he says about it.

9. Was this always Meghan's plan, to get Harry out of there? Absolutely not, she says. Megxit was not her initial intention, and she planned to do The Firm's job well. But that all turned out differently, and as a result, Harry also realized how unhealthy this was for them. ‘I was trapped but I didn’t know I was trapped,’ he says, admitting that he would never have left without Meghan.

10. The real wedding took place three days before the media spectacle. The wedding that we all saw on TV was purely for show.

11. By the way, they both say nothing negative about Queen Elizabeth: according to Meghan, she has ‘always been wonderful to me’, and Harry talks about how much respect he has for her. According to him, the couple's decision to leave the family and take a step back did not come as a big shock: they would have discussed this with her often.

12. And last but very not least: IT’S A GIRL. Yes, the two are having a girl. ‘It’s amazing, to have a boy and then a girl, what more could you ask for?’ says Harry.

And then also an important question: what is Meghan wearing? Well, The New York Times already has the answer to that. A dress by Giorgio Armani (almost five thousand dollars).

Was that it then? Well, no. Oprah dropped a cliffhanger at the end that there will be extra footage tomorrow morning (American time, so afternoon for us). Oh boy, I'm holding my breath.

By the way, I learned last night that The Firm and The British Royal Family are not necessarily the same: Meghan makes a clear distinction there. Initially, she was warmly welcomed by the family (and the first meeting with Queen Elizabeth was not very formal at all), but that was a bit different with the institution behind it – The Firm.
