Messy but: you are healthier

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: research proves that people who are messy with food are healthier.
During meals, there are mess-makers and non-mess-makers. I belong to the non-mess-makers team, but my roommate undoubtedly falls into the other category. With everything that is eaten, something flies off the plate onto the table or the floor in no time. But did you know that those mess-makers are really healthy?
Scientific studies that give us the remedy against hangovers, show that the hangover gets less as you get older or tell us that eating cheese makes us sleep better, make that glass of red wine and cheese platter in the evening just a little bit more enjoyable. So this time, good news for everyone who spills wine from the glass and loses cheese bits between the couch: you are healthy!
Adventurous eaters
Researchers at the University of Swansea in Wales conducted a study on the character of children who are messy during meals. Children who are messy turned out to be much healthier and less overweight. How is that possible? The researchers say that mess-makers have a more adventurous character than non-mess-makers. As a result, these children tend to try different types of food more often and thus have a more varied diet. In the end, it makes them healthier.
Spill away
Being adventurous and being messy seem to go hand in hand. We all know that eating a variety of foods is indeed very healthy. So the next time a strand of Japanese black spaghetti lands on your lap, you can now say that you are just a super adventurous eater.
